Peace Vigil Tomorrow

E-mail Print PDF

The Violence Prevention Alliance will be hosting a Peace Vigil tomorrow, Tuesday March 2 at the Emancipation Park.

The vigil is part of wider activities marking peace month and it is scheduled to start at 5p.m.

This vigil is to be a powerful symbol of expressing the pain of violence that Jamaica has experienced over the years.

The 2009 homicide rate has already proved how daunting the challenge is in the efforts to overcome violence

and the moral morass in our beloved Jamaica.  Join us at the vigil so that we can be more united and resolute

in this journey to achieve a more peaceful Jamaica.

Persons will be invited to share their messages of peace either in poetic or pictorial depiction

as well as brief testimonials. There will be number of religious and secular musical performances

and 1,000 candles will be lit under the premise Light a Candle - Save a Life.

A banner will be created as persons bring pictures or write the names of loved ones

recently lost to violence. Finally doves will be released to symbolize our renewed

commitment to a peaceful Jamaica.

The Peace Vigil follows on from a very  successful Peace March and Rally held last year.
